The Iowa Legislature set up a Local Food and Farm Program in 2011 modeled after the Iowa Local Food and Farm Plan developed by the Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture. A core group has assessed challenges in key areas: 1) business development and financial assistance, 2) processing, 3) food safety, 4) issues relevant to beginning, minority and transitioning farmers, 5) program assessment and 6) implementation of local food incentives. Now what? We need your ideas to proceed!
Plan to attend the Local Foods Summit on Tuesday, April 3 at the Scheman Building.
Register online here. Cost is $20 for program only or $45 for program and Iowa dinner at 6 p.m.
Keynote speaker will be David Dahlquist, a nationally recognized public artist and teacher from Des Moines. He will speak about creating a local sense of place that embraces food, community, history and culture.
