Description:

Enjoy a brief tour of the farm with ample time for discussion. Included are a visit to Drew’s new Niman-oriented farrow-to-finish hog operation, Dean’s cattle operation and their shared row crop operation. Lunch provided at noon.

Farm description:

About 350 acres near Alta and 480 acres near Pocahontas. The farm includes corn on about 50% of tillable acres and soybeans on the other half, a 15 head cow/calf operation and a pig enterprise not afloat yet (possibly 2 sets of 19 sows each with 4 boars).

 

Directions:

From the east: Take Hwy 7 west from Alta a few miles to Co Rd M27; go south 1.25 miles, then head west on 580th St. about 2/3 of a mile. The farm has a 1/4-mile-long lane on the north side of the road. From the west: Take Hwy 7 East from Aurelia to Co Rd M27, then follow directions from that point, as above. From the north or south: Find Co Rd M27, then follow instructions as above.
