Description:

Learn about new flame-weeding machines to improve weed management in an organic row-crop system. Find out about organic buckwheat production and talk about the rotational benefits of small grains in an organic system. Visit the U.S. Testing Network Corn Hybrid Showcase and learn more about organic and non-GMO corn hybrids; visit with seed dealers and corn breeders. After dinner, visit the new wheatgrass drying facility that the Shrivers have recently added to their diverse farming business.

The Farm:

Shriver Farms, LLC is an 1,800-acre organic farm that raises corn, soybeans, wheat, barley and buckwheat. Custom Drying, LLC harvests cereal grasses (wheat, barley and oat) and provides drying and pelletizing services. Products are sold to Pines International which processes them into cereal grass products for human consumption. See wheatgrass.com for more info.
