Elevating Prairie Plants
Elevating Prairie Plants on a No-Till Flower Farm
Sunday, July 16 | 2-4 p.m.
Hosts: Hannah Scates Kettler & Kurtis Kettler
Address: 1149 190th Street, State Center, IA 50247
Minerva’s Meadow near State Center, Iowa, is a 10-acre farm where Hannah Scates Kettler and her husband, Kurtis, are in their fourth growing season. Hannah uses no-till methods and natural products to grow hundreds of cultivars of cut flowers that she sells through farmers markets, subscriptions and – new this year – U-pick. Every bouquet Hannah makes also includes components of native plants harvested from the 2-acre prairie strip Hannah and Kurtis are establishing on their farm. Including these natives elevates their beauty and starts conversations about the value of native plants.
Light refreshments will follow the field day.
