Jim Fitkin raises corn and soybeans – and most importantly, popcorn – near Cedar Falls, Iowa. Starting with bagged kernels at some area Hy-Vees, Jim now sells Fit-Pop kernels, popped corn and microwave popcorn directly to consumers and through a number of retail outlets. At this field day, Jim will discuss the similarities between growing popcorn and field corn. He’ll also discuss popcorn variety selection, how to process popcorn for retail sales and marketing. Attendees will see popcorn growing in the field and Jim’s set-up for popcorn processing.
