Event Overview
Lee Matteson owns and operates Lee's Greens with his wife, Kelly, and four children in Nevada, Iowa. Lee's focus is off-season crops, which he grows in 2 acres of heated greenhouses. He has another 5 acres of outdoor fruit and vegetable production.
During this field day, we'll see how Lee grows lettuce, romaine, kale, collards and chard hydroponically. We'll also see greenhouse production of tomatoes, cucumbers and squash, along with outdoor field production of other fruits and vegetables. Lee will share how he is working to extend his strawberry season and how he built a business based on hydroponically grown lettuce. Come learn about the ins and outs of growing this way, and if it may be feasible for you.
