About the Trainers

David Royer

Trainer Experience: I got out of the Army in 1979 and harvested my first crop in 1980. I have been farming ever since. I am interested in keeping family farms in families, not companies. I have worked with numerous employees over more than four decades of my farming operation, with many different ages and backgrounds and experience levels. I mentored as I raised my four children on my farm, and two of them decided to stay in farming, and both now have successful farming operations.

About the Farm

I have 800 row crop acres, as well as 125 beef cows and 2,500 wean-to-finish hogs. We use no-till over as many acres as possible each year. We also use cover crops and extended rotations by utilizing oats or by hay and pasture rotation. We use rotational grazing on our pasture. We utilize grid soil sampling in conjunction with variable rate lime and fertilizer applications, as well as variable rate seeding. Our markets: Corn sold at local chicken farm, local ethanol plant and local food grade corn processing plant. Beans sold at local Landus (ADM partner).
