Event Overview

Carmen Black and her sister, Maja, own and operate Sundog Farm and Local Harvest CSA near Solon, Iowa. On their diversified operation, they raise vegetables, sheep, goats and eggs using organic practices, which they direct-market through their community-supported agriculture business.

Join Carmen, PFI’s current board president, and Maja for this field day focused on soil health. They'll share current on-farm research they’re doing with PFI’s Cooperators’ Program, including a project to help them better understand how different manures, cover crops and grazing are affecting plant-available nitrogen in the soil. They will also discuss long-term and immediate strategies for improving soil health through reducing tillage, cover crops and grazing.
