Event Overview
Eric Fara grew up in Shelby County, Iowa, where his family raised crops for seed and his grandpa ran a grain elevator through which he sold the seed. About 25 years ago, they started raising wagyu cattle and grazing them on cover crops when possible. Eric felt a strong pull back to the farm after completing his education. To find his niche in the family operation, he started doing custom cover crop application using the cleaned rye and oat seed.
Come to the Fara family’s field day to see plots of various cover crop species and mixes. You'll hear about opportunities for cost-share to support adding cover crops. Eric is also excited to share how he has grown his custom seeding business to more than 1,600 acres of cover crops, plus some alfalfa and land in the Conservation Reserve Program.
