Event Overview
Jon and Ruth Jovaag own roughly 500 tillable acres, with an additional 60 non-tillable acres in Austin, Minnesota, comprising woodlands and riparian corridors. They began transitioning their row crops to organic in 2014. Since then, they have used data to add prairie strips, Conservation Reserve Program acres and habitat through the state-funded Reinvest in Minnesota program. This data-based approach has ensured they're adding the right conservation practices in the right places to boost yield and provide vital habitat.
At this field day, Jon and Ruth, along with Pheasants Forever, will discuss how precision conservation has informed their decisions. Together, they will highlight how habitat supports healthy soil, water and wildlife alongside healthy farm profitability.
