Event Overview
Jill Beebout and her husband, Sean Skeehan, run Blue Gate Farm, a 40-acre diversified, chemical-free, vegetable farm in Chariton, Iowa, where they integrate ecological principles into their farming systems. During this field day, we'll learn how Jill supports pollinators by planting flowers among her vegetables, which she can also harvest for cut flowers.
Jill will share how she runs her crop rotations and successions in the field and tunnels. She will discuss on-farm soil health trials she has done with PFI – and what she's learned. We'll also hear how Jill markets her 100-plus member CSA, does custom online ordering and creates value-added products for year-round revenue. Megan McKay of Mindful Nourishment Matters will also speak about the group's work with growers like Jill in Marion County.
