Event Overview
Tim and Mandy Youngquist own and operate Otter Creek Natives, a seed nursery that started as a way to increase the biodiversity of their own farm. Since buying the farm in 2014, they have been transitioning open lawn and former cropland into native prairie, with 3 acres finished so far.
At this field day, we'll explore ways to turn these spaces into thriving habitat that supports critical insect populations. Tim will share practical steps for preparing low-diversity land for this transition. He'll also share ways to build diverse and resilient native plant communities. On this walking tour, learn how prairie supports pollinators and wildlife, improves water quality and creates strong ties between healthy farms and vibrant rural communities.
