New Grazing Coordinator Joins the Team!

By Kevin Dietzel
Hello and Greetings Everybody!

I am now on my second day of working at PFI, and the hours are still flying by. I just wanted to introduce myself and give a little information about my background.

I grew up in Minnesota, where my family moved between the Twin Cities and a small farm community where people lived and worked with mentally disabled adults on a diversified dairy, crop, and vegetable farm called Camphill Village Minnesota. After high school I spent three years working on organic dairy farms in Germany before heading to college at the University of Minnesota Morris, where I majored in biology. Since then I have worked as a soils research technician, first at Cornell University and then at Iowa State University, where I helped conduct multiple on-farm research projects about nutrient management topics, conservation practices, and soil quality characteristics.

A participant in PFI’s Next Generation Program, I hope in the near future to begin farming myself, ideally on a grass-based dairy specializing in on-farm cheese production.

I really look forward to working with PFI and its members. I am very excited about all of the things that are happening here, and honored that I can be a part of that. I am sure I will also learn a lot in the process!
