Cover Crops in Wright County

By Sarah Carlson

Check out this blog by ISU Extension Field Agronomist, John Holmes, about a cover crop tour that The Nature Conservancy, NRCS and PFI partnered on yesterday. We heard presentations about Strip Tillage, Cover Crops and the Mississippi River Basin Initiative and then visited 2 cover crop fields and a field that had been strip tilled in the fall. The aerial seeded cover crops, although planted late last fall looked better than the drilled fields. Both fields were planted with rye. The drilled fields also had hairy vetch and sweetclover. We couldn’t find the legumes but they might still grow once the soil warms up.
