RESEARCH REPORT: Hog Feeder Adjustment
Differences in hand-operated versus automated feeding systems contribute to variability in feed efficiency on finishing hogs. Wasted feed, feed lost from the feeder for other reasons than animal consumption, is a concern for at Rosmann Family Farm.
A trial was designed to determine the effects of feeder management on growth performance in organic hogs. They found that adjusting feeders more frequently provides some feed cost savings and improves the efficiency of gain in finishing organic hogs. Obviously, more labor is required with more frequent adjustments. Read the entire report here.
