Looking for cover crop services?

By Sarah Carlson

Screen Shot 2015-05-15 at 1.08.47 PMMore than 3200 Iowa farmers tried cover crops last year. The Iowa Department of Ag and Land Stewardship is helping farmers reduce some of the upfront costs to do cover crops through the state’s cost share program. This helps farmers new to cover crops try them without as much invested. Practical Farmers of Iowa’s members have been leading the state’s farmers to learn more about ways to best make cover crops work. Several years ago they wanted to know which pilots in the state could seed cover crops and where to buy seed. Today our Cover Crop Business Directory has a long list of businesses supporting the growth of this conservation practice. Notice also some PFI farmers are offering custom services or seed they have raised on farm.
If you were missed and want to be listed on the directory contact Nick Ohde at nick@practicalfarmers.org. If you are hosting a field day or a meeting and want copies of the directory call the office at 515-232-5661. Happy cover cropping!
