Nitrogen Management with Cover Crops – 2021 Virtual Annual Conference
By Practical Farmers of Iowa
Understanding basics of the nitrogen cycle can help address questions surrounding fertilizer management in cover cropped systems. In this session, Eileen Kladivko highlights how the decomposition of various cover crop species alters nitrogen availability and what that means for fertilizer applications in the following cash crop. Eileen also discusses how cover crops reduce nitrate leaching to drainage waters and recycle the nitrogen within your soil.
