AMES, Iowa (June 20, 2024) — Farmers interested in cover crops can now register to attend Practical Farmers of Iowa’s first-ever Central Nebraska Cover Crop Workshop, which will take place on Tuesday, August 6, in Gothenburg, Nebraska. Farmers of all cover cropping experience levels are encouraged to attend.

“This workshop will be a fantastic opportunity for farmers across Nebraska to connect with others actively using or interested in incorporating cover crops on their farms,” Solveig Orngard, PFI’s field crops education coordinator, says.

Attendees will spend the day learning alongside and from other farmers about what works and what doesn’t with cover crops. They will discuss the role of cover crops in drought conditions, how they benefit soil health, and the opportunities they provide for input reduction and livestock feed.

  • Date: Tuesday, August 6
  • Time: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • Location: Bayer Water Utilization Learning Center | 76268 NE-47 | Gothenburg, NE

In the morning, attendees will explore a variety of cover crop species in the research fields at the Bayer Water Utilization Learning Center and learn directly from the resident Bayer researchers. In the afternoon, attendees will sit down with fellow farmers to hear about their experiences with cover crops, with ample opportunity for questions and discussion.

A farmer social to continue conversation will immediately follow the workshop at Good Life Gothenburg (702 4th St) in Gothenburg at 4:15 p.m.

The event is free to attend and open to all. While RSVPs are appreciated by July 31st, walk-ins are also welcome. To RSVP and for full event details, visit practicalfarmers.org/nebraska-cover-crop-workshop.

This workshop is sponsored by ADM re:generations, Center for Rural Affairs, Green Cover Seed and Roberts Seed Inc.
