Field Crop Shop Talks
Join Us for Shop Talks
Join us for a series of field crop farmer meet-ups during the downtime this winter into early spring! Gather over coffee, lunch, pizza and beyond to talk with neighbors about cover crops, soil health and other conservation practices you’re implementing on your farm.
Shop talks are continuing to be planned throughout the fall. Check back for more dates and locations as the season goes!
Schedule
Dec. 11 | 10:30 a.m.-Noon
Location: The Mill Wheel Tavern – Milledgeville, IL
Join Norm Deets, who farms in Carroll and Ogle counties, to discuss his experiences using conservation practices and cover crops on his farm to reach his goals of protecting the land, reducing erosion and building organic matter.
Norm has been no-till for the past 40 years and started cover cropping six to seven years ago. Alexa Skirmont with Precision Conservation Management will also present on the work she has been doing with Norm and dive deeper into economics of making management changes on farm, giving us a glimpse into his land with precision maps.
Come with questions for Norm and Alexa, as we will have ample time for open conversations to discuss your challenges, successes or concerns around cover crop adoption or implementing other regenerative practices.
