Using Small Grains to Protect Your Bottom Line
Tuesday, June 18 | 10:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. | Dyersville, IA
Wayne will share what he’s learned about managing his farm for soil health and using small grains as a profitable alternative to low margins in a conventional corn-bean rotation. He will also discuss breaking up weed cycles without expensive herbicides, incorporating small grains into animal rations, advances in small-grains varieties and experimenting with hybrid rye.
HOST: Wayne Brunsman | brunsman@yousq.net
THE FARM:
Wayne Brunsman raises dairy heifers and diversified row crops on 280 acres in northeast Iowa. In 2006, he switched to 100% no-till. By eliminating tillage and incorporating cover crops and small grains into his rotation, he has improved his yields, lowered production costs, reduced weed pressure and improved soil health on his farm.
