4-6 p.m.
Location
360 E 14th St.
Albert Lea, MN 56007
Hosts
Anne & Landon Plagge and Amanda & Knute Severson
Anne and Landon Plagge organized a group of 85 farmers and community members to bring a new farmer-owned grain milling facility to Albert Lea, Minnesota. The new facility, Green Acres Milling, will break ground this year. When it’s complete, it will handle 4 million bushels of oats annually, producing domestically sourced oat groats, flakes and flour through local supply chains. Oats are sourced from farmer members from Iowa, Minnesota and surrounding states that farm using regenerative practices.
At this field day, you’ll have a chance to visit the Green Acres Milling construction site. You’ll learn about growing oats and grazing cattle on cover crops following oats. You’ll also hear how adding oats into row crop rotations and having a viable local market can translate to economic opportunity.
