Binding Off: The Intentional Transition of a Sheep Farm
Friday, June 20
10 a.m.-Noon
Location
4546 N 83rd Ave. E
Newton, IA 50208
Hosts
Regina & Tessa Frahm
Regina Frahm’s farm has been in her family since the mid-1800s. During that time, the farm has been through a few generational transfers, each with its own successes and difficulties. Now, Regina is in the midst of the process herself. As she transitions the integrated crop and livestock farm to her daughter-in-law Tessa, she wants to avoid some of the challenges she faced when the farm passed down to her.
Come learn how this sheep farm is changing and adapting as the transition unfolds. Regina and Tessa will share how they’re systematically reducing flock size and shifting production priorities. They’ll also discuss ways they’re creatively recycling infrastructure to minimize inputs. Throughout the process, this pair is focusing on intentional communication and cooperation.
