In partnership with Audubon Society
Tuesday, Sept. 23
4:30-6:30 p.m.
Location
13742 NW 30th St
Polk City, IA 50226
Host
Aaron Lehman, Lehman Farms
Aaron Lehman and his family grow corn, soybeans and hay at Lehman Farms LTD. Conservation plays a central role on the farm. They use extended crop rotations and take part in several federal conservation programs, such as the Conservation Stewardship Program, Conservation Reserve Program and Prairie Pothole Water Quality and Wildlife Program. In 2017, Aaron was named Polk County Conservation Farmer of the Year.
Today, Lehman Farms serves as a refuge for Iowa’s birds, including red-tailed hawks, northern harriers and western meadowlarks. Join Aaron and the Audubon Society as they lead a short trek to Polk County’s highest point and explore how farmers can create critical bird habitat. As president of the Iowa Farmers Union, Aaron will also discuss the importance of supporting USDA conservation programs. Wear sturdy shoes, bring water and be ready for uneven terrain.
