Enhancing Cover Crops Through Technology
Enhancing Cover Crops Through Technology
Saturday, Aug. 30
10 a.m.-Noon
Location
Field Location:
Southwest corner of Iowa Route 92 and 30th Avenue
Martensdale, IA 50160
Hosts
Devin Davis & Shanon Jamison
Devin Davis and his sister, Shanon Jamison, farm in Warren County, Iowa. They credit advances in technology with letting them use cover crops and no-till practices. Six years ago, when they started incorporating covers into their soybean and corn operation, they had the cover crop seed flown on by plane. Now, after buying a drone, Devin and Sharon seed their own cover crops. The drone represents the latest tech in aerial seeding. They also have two modern tractors for planting into their crop fields, and an older drill for seeding waterways and cover crops.
At this field day, you’ll have a chance to observe Devin and Sharon’s drone-seeding process. They’ll discuss how they select seeds for clay soils. You’ll also get to look at planting equipment enabled with the technology they use to navigate their no-till, high-residue fields.
