Jason and Sarah Russell farm near Monticello, Iowa, where the family farming roots trace back to the Civil War era. There, they grow corn, soy, rye and diverse forage mixes, and raise cattle, sheep and pigs. They have been using cover crops and no-till since 2010, and use renewable energy with their hog operation with the goal of improving soil health and financial sustainability. Jason has five years of experience relay-cropping rye and soybeans. This year, he’s trialing winter wheat as a relay crop.

Come learn about the new crops Jason is trying, including camelina and canola, in addition to his work on relay-cropping rye and wheat. Jason will also discuss his sustainable hog production, using hog manure as a fertility source and overall nutrient management while increasing yields.
