Chris Von Holten operates a 100% no-till corn and soybean farm covering 1,900 acres near Walnut, Illinois. In 2008, Chris started experimenting with cover crops in his rotation. In the past six years, he added wheat to the rotation, taking it to grain while also saving some for cover crop seed. Recently, soil health tests and nitrogen trials have led Chris to cut back on his nitrogen rates. On-farm research has always helped Von Holten Farms move toward farm goals of reducing inputs and farming sustainably.

At this field day, Chris will present on a multiyear tile drainage monitoring project on the farm. He’ll also share how similar on-farm research has shaped his management decisions. Finally, you’ll have a chance to view tile monitoring equipment and Chris’ twin-row planter used for wheat.
