Livestock Parasites 101: Prevention, Identification, Treatment

Do you have questions about parasites in your livestock? Learn the essentials from Iowa State University veterinary pathologist Matt Brewer in this hands-on workshop. We’ll start with an overview of different livestock parasites, placing special emphasis on those that are transmissible to humans. After the discussion, participants will have a chance to practice performing fecal egg counts on manure samples. The workshop will also give farmers a chance to ask questions and share their experiences with veterinarians. This workshop will be capped at 20 people.

SPEAKER BIO:
Dr. Matt Brewer is a veterinarian and assistant professor at the ISU College of Veterinary Medicine. In his current role, he teaches courses in parasitology, conducts diagnostic work and leads a basic research laboratory. The laboratory investigates mechanisms for parasite drug resistance and has received funding from National Institutes of Health, USDA and The American Kennel Club.

DIRECTIONS:
From US-30, take Exit 146 towards Iowa State University. Merge onto S University Boulevard and go 0.3 mile. Turn right onto ISU C Drive, then right onto Christensen Drive Park in Lot 96 and walk northeast to The Gentle Doctor Courtyard. Enter through the visitors entrance, not the teaching hospital.
