THE FARM:
Bob Zimmerman has been renting the South Place farm for 12 years. Most of the property was originally enrolled in the Conservation Reserve Program and planted to grasses like brome, but management is constantly evolving. Working with landowner Del Brehmer, and with Pheasants Forever, Bob has developed the 560-acre property into an oasis for wildlife. Together, they have restored a patchwork of nesting, rearing and winter cover that benefits a variety of wildlife species, as well as water quality. Bob and Del also host visitors of all kinds, using the property as a learning farm where people can can come and see first-hand how conservation and habitat can be incorporated into the agricultural landscape.
