Whiterock Conservancy | Coon Rapids, IA
We’ll meet at the Burr Oak Visitor Center to enjoy refreshments and a social hour. If the trail conditions and weather permit, attendees will hop on a hayride to visit many of Whiterock’s unique landscape features and agricultural practices. Guests are also welcome to explore the many hiking trails on their own throughout the property.
Whiterock Conservancy is a non-profit land trust that stewards over 5,500 acres that include an oak savanna, rolling pastures, remnant and restored prairies, wetlands, the Middle Raccoon River, sandstone bluffs, fishing ponds, cropland and unique historic and geologic sites.
Saturday, May 6 | 1-3 p.m.
Devine-Johnson Family Farm | Belle Plaine, MN
Join PFI members Kim Devine-Johnson and Chris Johnson on their family farmstead near Belle Plaine, Minnesota, for an informal afternoon gathering. The farmstead consists of 20 acres donated to Prairie Oaks Institute as an educational non-profit, as well as 180 acres that remain in the family. The social will be held in the Granary, and guests are invited to walk the labyrinth or explore the remnant oak savanna in the pasture. The Devine-Johnson family will share their journey from inheriting a traditional family farm with livestock and cash crops, to community diversification with continued conservation of the land.
