Field day will explore how farmers can tap into USDA programs to fund farm projects – June 20, near Lamoni

LAMONI, Iowa (June 10, 2022) — Chad and Katie Hensley, of Big Creek Farms, will host a Practical Farmers of Iowa field day exploring how farmers can take advantage of working lands conservation programs to fund various farm projects on Monday, June 20, from 4-7 p.m., on their farm near Lamoni, Iowa (30608 S. Smith St).

The event – “Making USDA Programs Work for You” – is free to attend and will include dinner at the end of the field day. RSVPs are appreciated for the meal by June 15.

During the field day, Chad and Katie will share how they have funded a range of projects on their diverse Decatur County cut flower, produce and grass-fed heritage beef farm. Topics they’ll cover include:

  • Conservation programs
  • Whole-farm conservation
  • On-farm habitat
  • Tree planting
  • Grazing infrastructure, including fencing and water
  • The Conservation Stewardship Program
  • The Environmental Quality Incentives Program
  • Programs through USDA’s Farm Service Agency
