NORTH ENGLISH, Iowa (June 14, 2022) — Jason and Hannah Grimm, of Grimm Family Farm, will host a Practical Farmers of Iowa field day exploring on-farm poultry processing on Friday, June 24, from 1-4 p.m., on their farm near North English, Iowa (2676 KK Ave).

The event – “On-Farm Poultry Processing & Licensing” – is free to attend and will start out with snacks and refreshments.

Please note: Due to the logistics and the risk of bird flu with a poultry-focused field day, attendance is limited to 30 people and registration is required. Sign up online, or call Debra Boekholder at (515) 232-5661. The field day is sponsored by Iowa Farmers Union.

PFI2022 BiosecureEvent IconAttendees must also adhere to PFI’s biosecure event policy, which includes wearing clean footwear and clothes that have not been worn on other farms with livestock or livestock buildings, or around a dense population of wild birds. Read the full guidelines for attending PFI’s biosecure events online.

Jason and Hannah Grimm are third-generation farmers raising pasture-based meat birds and, alongside Jason’s family, grow corn, hay, oats, beef, produce and dry beans. During the field day, they will show guests their new on-farm poultry processing setup. The event will feature a hands-on, live demonstration of processing chickens.

Jason will also discuss processing equipment, buildings and infrastructure needed and share how to navigate licensing for on-farm processing.
