Okoboji, Iowa (June 3, 2022) — Kate Mendenhall, of Okoboji Organics, will host a Practical Farmers of Iowa field day exploring pastured pig and poultry production on Friday, June 17, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., on her farm near Okoboji, Iowa (22598 Nature Center Road).

The event – “Pastured Pigs and Poultry at Okoboji Organics” – is free to attend and will start off with a pulled pork lunch. RSVPs are appreciated for the meal by June 12. To sign up, visit the event page at practicalfarmers.org/field-days or call Debra Boekholder at (515) 232-5661. The field day is sponsored by Iowa Organic Association, Premier 1 and Riverside Feeds, LLC.

Please note: Due to the presence of livestock on the farm, this field day is a biosecure event. Attendees must wear clean shoes or boots, as well as clean clothes, that have not been worn on other farms with livestock or livestock buildings, or around a dense population of wild birds. Read the full guidelines for attending PFI’s biosecure events on our website.

Okoboji Organics is a small family-run operation that was certified organic in 2019. During the field day, guests will get to tour Okoboji Organics’ pastures to visit pigs, chickens and turkeys; look at how the Mendenhalls process poultry on-farm for direct sales; and visit the farm store. Kate will also share her experience with organic feed and the organic certification process.
