WATERLOO, Iowa (Aug. 12, 2022) — DaQuan Campbell, of We Arose Co-op, will host a Practical Farmers of Iowa field day exploring how urban farming can supply affordable produce for the community on Wednesday, Aug. 17, from 4-6 p.m., in Waterloo (300 Peek St.).

The event – “Urban Farming How-Tos With We Arose Co-op” – is free to attend and will include light refreshments. Sign up online, or call Debra Boekholder at (515) 232-5661. The field day is sponsored by Iowa Farmers Union and Iowa State University On-Farm Food Safety Team.

DaQuan raises high-quality greens and produce on a quarter-acre no-till plot in Waterloo’s Fourth Ward. His goal is to provide affordable produce that nourishes his community and their families.

At the field day, attendees will learn how DaQuan and the We Arose crew prepare garden beds and establish walkways, set up irrigation and manage weeds. DaQuan will also discuss tools and machinery he uses, and how urban plots can be used to grow food.

Full event details are available at practicalfarmers.org/urban-farming-how-tos-with-we-arose-co-op. Attendees should note that the event will be hosted on an urban lot, and parking will be on the street.

This event is part of PFI’s 2022 field day season, which includes 41 events hosted by farmers located across the state, and beyond, on topics spanning the agricultural spectrum. Attendees can expect a welcoming atmosphere, a spirit of curiosity, a culture of mutual respect and farmers openly sharing their knowledge and experience.
