Austin Geist joined the Practical Farmers of Iowa staff in July 2024 as the senior data systems coordinator. In this role, Austin oversees the design and implementation of data management tools for the farm viability department and designs the processes required to ensure consistency and efficiency.
Austin is an Arizonan native who has been deeply immersed in agriculture since he and his family moved to central Iowa in 2010. After earning his bachelor’s degree in agricultural studies from Iowa State University, Austin and his wife settled in Marshalltown, Iowa. He is excited to use his prior knowledge and experience to help overcome challenges currently faced within the farm viability departments’ data management structure at PFI.
In his spare time, Austin volunteers with the Animal Rescue League of Marshalltown alongside his wife. They assist with anything from fostering and rehabilitating troubled animals to helping with back-end support of event planning and fundraising. Austin is also a passionate “DIYer” who enjoys tackling as many projects as time allows around his home and for his family.
