Jose Cesario Pinto joined the PFI staff in December 2024 as the remote sensing data coordinator. He manages on-farm research projects, leading efforts to integrate satellite imagery and field data to evaluate how using cover crops affects fieldwork suitability, crop performance and yield stability across the Midwest. His work aims to provide actionable insights into the resilience of agricultural systems under variable weather conditions.

Originally from Londrina, Parana, Brazil, Jose earned his bachelor’s degree in agronomy from the Federal University of Santa Catarina. He then moved to the U.S. to pursue a master’s degree in agronomy at Kansas State University, where his research focused on root ecology, including developing an automated below-ground camera for root imaging. He later completed his doctorate at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, focusing on integrating remote sensing and crop modeling tools to enhance nitrogen recommendations for Midwestern farmers.

Outside of work, Jose enjoys traveling, sports, live music and spending time outdoors with family and friends.
