Natasha WilsonWhy do you want to farm?

I care deeply about producing good food, practicing good land stewardship, treating animals well and improving food access in our community. I also believe everyone has a right to high-quality, nourishing food. Combining these values and wanting to honor the legacy of my parents and grandparents drives me to farm. I want to teach my daughter to know how to grow her own food and to care for the Earth and animals.

What are you farming right now?

We raise cattle, pigs, goats, chickens, ducks and geese using rotational grazing practices. We tend bees and harvest raw honey in addition to raising row crops and some produce.

What’s your vision for your farm?

I envision our farm producing a variety of meats, eggs, honey and produce for our local community in ways that are good for the environment, treat animals well and result in high-quality, healthy food. I dream about doing so in partnership with other farmers in our area.

Why do you want to participate in this program?

I am very excited about the mentoring, networking and business planning help offered through this program. I learn a great deal every time I have a chance to interact with other like-minded farmers and have really benefited already from the generosity and creativity of other farmers in the area.
